My name is Anne O’Dea and I am the Performing Arts (Music/Drama) teacher at Ardtornish Primary School. In 2020 I am working Monday, Tuesday alternate Wednesdays and Friday. This will enable me to teach all classes from Yr. 1 to Yr. 7.
I have taught music for many years and am heavily involved with arts administration through my work with the Primary Schools Music Festival. I have taught in Adelaide, Whyalla and Wudinna in the country. I have been at Keithcot Farm, Modbury West, Pooraka, The Heights and Ardtornish (1988-1997).
2020 Acquaintance night information.
Today was our first ‘Come and try’ Festival Choir for students in yr. 5,6 & 7 in preparation for our schools’ participation in the Primary Schools Music Festival held at the Festival Theatre each September. We will be rehearsing each Tuesday at 8:50am. Students have many opportunities through this organisation for dance, drama, public speaking, solo singing, orchestra participation and visual art. Information will be provided as these opportunities arise. Any student in years 5/6/7 can participate…there is no audition process. There is a participation fee of $45 which covers a choir book, access to the PSMF app/learning portal, performance t shirt and part of the bus fare for our major rehearsals in term 3. A payment plan can be organised. All information regarding Festival Choir will be sent home in the next couple of weeks.
I have also started ‘The APS Junior Singers’ for the years 2/3/4 and this will be a Tuesday lunchtime rehearsal.
The 18 classes I teach will have a music focus. Drama will be integrated into my lessons through performance. Performances will take place in class settings and at assemblies. Where class teachers are working on a particular topic, I sometimes structure my lessons around that topic.
Towards the end of Term 2, we will be visited by the JAM Band. I will teach all the classes the songs the band will be performing.
Each week in my lessons I share with students the Top 5 (from the ARIA Charts) and when possible/appropriate we listen to and/or view (video clips) these songs. Any song which contains explicit/inappropriate content or language will not be shown or played to students. I incorporate a lot of singing, games and the use of classroom percussion instruments in my lessons.
Please feel free to contact me at school (email is best email@example.com) if you require further clarification.
